Iford Arts launches new online series of Opera insights.

The first episode of Opera Shots with Oliver Gooch premiers on YouTube via the Iford Arts Website on 24 August at 5pm.

Join Oliver Gooch, Iford Arts Artistic Director, in a series of opera insights with guests including Christian Curnyn, Máire Flavin, Angharad Lyddon and more. Explore the world of opera and get a behind the scenes perspective from some of the talented artists and creatives who have taken part in our exceptional performances.

In episode one, Oliver is in conversation with Irish soprano, Máire Flavin, Iford Arts’ memorable Mimí from 2018. They chat about mezzo transformations, ‘bac-ting’, the joy of operetta and her latest album, Baby Mine

One of Iford Arts’ most memorable young artists, mezzo soprano Angharad Lyddon, joins Oliver in Episode Two for a virtual Habañera, a chat about what the Iford Arts New Generation Programme meant to her, and her experiences as the Welsh representative for Cardiff Singer of the World.

In Episode Three, Oliver interviews Iford Arts’ long standing collaborator, Jeff Clarke. Opera della Luna has been central to the comic output of Iford Arts since 2003 and Jeff has produced many irreverent and zany productions of Offenbach and Donizetti which never fail to create a sensation with Iford Arts’ audiences. Hear about his creative process, his approach to translation and what actually makes comic opera funny!

Oliver Gooch says: “I have been delighted to get the chance to catch up with some of our most popular artists over recent weeks, offering some insights into our creative work. As we look forward to returning to Belcombe Court in 2021, I hope that you will be reminded of great evenings at Iford Arts and can look forward to even greater ones to come.

Jeff Clarke – Opera della Luna says: “The many years during which Opera della Luna spent the summer months creating new extraordinary productions for Iford Arts in unique spaces, were the most memorable and enjoyable times the company has known. From La Belle Hélène in 2003 to our final collaborative and mammoth production of Bernstein’s Candide, we have enjoyed weaving a rich tapestry of musical delights from Haydn to Verdi which have unquestionably broadened and enriched the company’s profile and reputation to an incalculable degree.

This is the second in a summer of online activity for Iford Arts, an internationally renowned opera production company based in the South West of England. The first being a three-part adaptation of the Fairy Tale opera Hansel and Gretel for families with children under 12.

Iford Arts’ online activity is in place of its series of opera, concerts and picnic proms which have been cancelled as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Programming for 2021 is well underway for an exciting season of events which will include 2020’s much anticipated production of Bisset’s Carmen at the Grade 1 listed Belcombe Court, Bradford-on-Avon. Tickets will be on sale this Autumn.
